Let us honor them and show them love and respect. Remember — their lives are hard.
A father carries weight that is rarely spoken of. He rises early and stays late. He worries about things he never says out loud. He gives what he has — his time, his strength, his presence — often without recognition and sometimes without thanks.
But God placed him there. That is not an accident.
A Gift from Above
Every good and perfect gift comes from the Father of lights. And among the greatest of those gifts is a father who stays — who shows up, who provides, who protects, and who points his children toward something greater than himself.
"Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights." — James 1:17
If you have a father in your life — or had one — that is a gift worth honoring. Not because he was perfect. No father is. But because God used him to shape you, to steady you, and to show you something of what it means to be loved.
Honor Is a Command, Not a Feeling
We do not honor our fathers only when we feel like it. We honor them because God commands it — and because honoring them is right.
"Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land that the Lord your God is giving you." — Exodus 20:12
Honor is not blind agreement. It is not pretending the hard things were not hard. It is choosing to see the man behind the role — the weight he carried, the sacrifices he made, the ways he tried even when he fell short.
Their Lives Are Hard
Do not forget this.
A father's life is hard in ways that are easy to overlook. The pressure to provide. The fear of failing his family. The loneliness of leadership. The quiet burden of being the one others lean on.
He may not say it. He may not show it. But it is there.
One of the most powerful things you can do for a father — your own, or the fathers around you — is simply to acknowledge that. To say: I see you. I am grateful. Your life matters.

Today and every day, let us be the kind of people who honor the fathers in our lives. Not just with words, but with the way we treat them — with patience, with gratitude, with the kind of love that says: you are not forgotten.
